National Physical Education and Sport Week is held from May 1 to May 7 every year. It’s a week-long celebration of giving importance to fitness, a healthy lifestyle, and a sound mind and body. Moultonborough School District has three fantastic Physical Education teachers.

Tom Hurley has been teaching at MCS for 4 years. His favorite unit to teach for elementary PE is “Cooperative Games”. Cooperation is a fundamental skill that needs to be taught and practiced for students to be able to communicate, work as a team, and solve problems on their own. “It is great to see students learn this skill and work together as a class to achieve a common goal.” Mr. Hurley currently coaches IL-MA Varsity Boys Lacrosse.

Liz McConnell has been with the district for 6 years (teaching PE for 11 years). Her favorite activities to teach are Archery and Project Adventure.  “I love teaching archery because students get a chance to try something new then perfect their skills.  I enjoy teaching Project Adventure because I am able to give students the chance to go out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves.” Mrs. McConnell is a basketball official.

Matt Swedberg has been at MA for 27 years. “Archery, Badminton, and our Project Adventure (aka Adventure Education/High Element climbing) classes are great classes to teach and watch students navigate through especially since those are activities students often don’t experience on their own.” Mr. Swedberg currently coaches Middle Level Girls Soccer, Varsity Girls Basketball and Varsity Girls Tennis.
