Tuesday, May 17th MA students took part in the NH Envirothon. The NH Envirothon is a competition of environmental and natural resource knowledge. Students compete in collaborative teams of 5 students. The teams rotate through 5 different stations – each with a separate test that includes identification of specimens and other hands-on elements. The station categories are “Soils”, “Aquatics”, “Forestry”, and “Wildlife”. The final category is a group presentation (to a panel of 3 professional judges) describing their solutions to a real-world problem. Teams learn about the presentation problem about 2 months before the competition, and then research, interview, and create their solution and presentation. This year’s theme, and presentation questions revolved around plastic waste in the environment.
The winner of the NH Envirothon represents NH in the North American Envirothon, held during the summer. Teams from all 50 states and several Canadian provinces vie to be the winner of this continental competition.
