Moultonborough Academy Earns Gold

Moultonborough Academy earned the top honor among the six New Hampshire public high schools that were named on the College Board’s recently released AP Honor Roll for 2024.  Of these six, Moultonborough Academy was the only high school to earn the Gold designation thus making it the highest ranked Advanced Placement program in a NH public high school last year.

In order to earn a place on the AP Honor Roll, schools must meet three criteria.  The College Culture category requires that at least 40% of a graduating class took at least one AP Exam during high school.  The College Credit category requires that at least 25% of the class scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam.  And the College Optimization category requires that at least 2% of the class took 5 or more AP Exams during high school with at least one taken in 9th or 10th grade.  There are four levels to the Honor Roll and depending on how well a school does in each category they can earn Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum status.  MA’s Class of 2024 met the Platinum standard in 2 out of 3 categories and Gold in the third thus making it the only public high school to earn Gold overall with none earning Platinum.

In the College Culture category, MA’s Class of 2024 earned Platinum as it saw 88% of its graduating students take at least one AP exam, more than double the forty percent needed to earn a spot on the AP Honor Roll.  In the College Credit category, the MA Class of 2024 also earned Platinum as it had 62% of its students earn a 3 or higher on an AP Exam, 2.5 times the 25% minimum needed.  And in the College Optimization category, 12% of MA’s Class of 2024 took at least 5 AP exams meeting the Gold Criteria, which was six times the 2% needed to earn a spot on the Honor Roll and only one student short of meeting the Platinum Criteria in the third and final category.

Moultonborough Academy offers a wide variety of Advanced Placement classes for its highest achieving students including Calculus, World History, Biology, Environmental Science, English, and Computer Sciences. The school adheres to an open enrollment policy that allows students to select an AP class if they are willing to meet the academic rigor expected of them. The other NH public high schools earning a spot on the 2024 AP Honor Roll were Bow (bronze), Profile (bronze), Oyster River (bronze), Windham (silver), and Hopkinton (silver).
