MSD School Board Makes Safety a District Goal

Words of the district mission

At the August 2022 Moultonborough School Board meeting, the school board unanimously voted to update the district mission statement, by adding the word “safe”.  The mission mission statement now reads:

Our MISSION is to provide a safe and caring culture of rigorous and relevant learning experiences. We model and promote ethical ideals of respect, responsibility, integrity, compassion, and moral courage.

The School Board added the word “safe” to recognize the importance of safety in our schools and to recognize the previous and ongoing work in the district on safety for our students and campus.  SchoolBoard Chair Patrick Hart noted that by adding the word ‘safe”. It made [safety] clearly a district goal. Moultonborough School District has had over the past few years safety as a priority, introducing a number of safety upgrades , including (but not limited to):

  • Increasing number of annual safety drills to exceed state requirements
  • Adding door security systems and protocols
  • Upgrading and expanding cameras
  • Adopting social-emotional learning programs, such as Choose Love*
  • Conducting staff training on topics to support physical safety, social-emotional safety, and mental health
  • Requiring all staff, coaches, and regular volunteers to complete a background check through FBI and state police before working with students
  • Conducting regular safety reviews with Bureau of Homeland Security
  • Having a full-time School Resource Officer

The district schools continue to evaluate protocols and systems through a safety lens. We remain committed to providing students a  safe environment to learn and grow.

If you have any concerns about student safety, please reach out to our school principals or send a message through our See Something, Say Something form found on our District website.
