Moultonborough Academy National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 15 new members on Monday, November 22. These 15 juniors and seniors were selected by the Academy faculty for NHS based on their demonstrated commitment to scholarship, service, leadership and character. The students were honored in a nice ceremony presided over by the Class of ’22 NHS members. Chip Nyhan, Middle Level Social Studies teacher, spoke at the induction ceremony. Chip Nyhan’s speech inspired the inductees with stories about his mother, who loved John Greenleaf Whittier’s poem “Don’t Quit.” Its opening lines summed up his mother’s approach to life.
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
