After Camp Robindel in Moultonborough was damaged by a severe storm Thursday July 21, 2022, 250 campers and staff from the camp spent the night at Moultonborough Academy. The storm knocked down trees and power throughout portions of Moultonborough. The campers were relocated for the night to the Academy building, which is designed to serve the community as an emergency shelter. Moultonborough school district custodial staff stayed through the night to ensure that the campers were safe and had what they needed. Campers returned to Camp Robindel the next day.
Moultonborough Academy has served as an emergency shelter before, most notably March 2017 after high winds during winter storm Stella knocked out power to Moultonborough residents for many days. Then the community used the Academy as a place to sleep, to get warm, to get hot meals, to charge personal devices, and to get a hot shower.
