At the Wednesday May 10, 2023, school board meeting, the Moultonborough School Board recognized 2 teachers and 2 paraeducators for their contributions to the schools and students of Moultonborough. Each year the district recognizes a teacher and a paraeducator at each school for distinguishing themselves as an educator for all children, a life long learner, and a contributor to the school and local community.
These year’s recipients of the Distinguished Educator Award are Allison Whitton (MA & ML) and Kim Anderson (MCS).
Allison Whitton, Moultonborough Academy and Moultonborough Middle Level Spanish teacher, is finishing her 28th year of teaching at Moultonborough Academy and has distinguished herself as a leader and a committed professional among our students and among her colleagues. Principal Coppinger nominated Ms. Whitton because “she is a well-regarded, creative, and student-focused classroom teacher. Her classes are characterized by multiple learning strategies in every class period that keep students thinking, participating and learning Spanish.”
Kim Anderson is the Moultonborough Central School librarian/media specialist. Ms. Anderson has filled many roles over her 24 years with Moultonborough School District. She began as a kindergarten teachers, then reading specialist, and, since 2018, library media specialist. Principal D’Haene said of Ms. Anderson’s work as a library/media specialist that with that position ” she blossomed and so has the Central School library with a renewed positive energy”.
The Moultonborough School Board also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of 2 outstanding support staff at the March School Board Meeting. Each school administrator nominated a deserving paraeducator for the annual Distinguished ParaEducator Award. This year’s recipients are Donna Winsor (MA and ML) and Kelly McLaughlin (MCS).
Donna Winsor has provided support to students who utilize the Academy ILC (Independent Learning Center) for the past 9 years. She is an integral member of the ILC team. Principal Lane noted that she is a great paraeducator, “One of the ways you can tell that you have a great paraprofessional is that you have to ask ‘Is he or she a para or a teacher?’ because you can’t tell.”
Kelly McLaughlin has supported students at Moultonborough Central School (MCS) for the past 5 years. Currently she is working with grade 4 and grade 5 students and serves as a mentor to new paraeducators at MCS. Ms. McLaughlin is a positive force at MCS for students and for teachers. She exhibits the qualities of an excellent mentor: positive outlook, knowledgeable, and brings out the best in others.
Moultonborough School District thanks our Distinguished Educators and Distinguished Paraeducators for their contributions to our school community.
