On Wednesday June 7, 2023, Superintendent Andrew recognized Moultonborough resident Dick Carlson, 90, for being an inspiration to all students. Carlson was recently awarded a high school diploma from his hometown of Reading, Massachusetts. 71 years ago, Carlson left high school in the fall of his senior year to serve in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Last week, he attended the Reading graduation and received his diploma. Carlson served 4 years in the military and was a trained as crane operator, a skill which became his career in civilian life. He moved to Moultonborough 32 years ago.
Superintendent Andrew noted that Carlson’s story speaks to “the importance of hard work, perseverance. Your degree doesn’t determine what you can do with your life. Education is important, but it’s not the piece of paper, it’s what you put in your head.” He also invited Carlson to attend the Moultonborough Central School Veterans’ Day Celebration in November. Any military veteran, past or present, in the Moultonborough community is invited to the celebration in November which honors the service of our local veterans.
