MA Music Teacher/Choral Director Emma Forest presented at the ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) Eastern Conference, which brings together the choral communities of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. This year it was hosted in Providence, Rhode Island February 28 – March 2. Emma Forest currently holds the title of NH ACDA President-Elect.

Emma Forest presented a session called “DEI in Action: Auditing Your Choral Library”. New Hampshire holds a music library that stores previously performed music from regional and state level festivals. A smaller committee originating from our NHMEA Choral Council consisting of NHACDA board members and NH educators worked through auditing the choral library, making sure that the repertoire was reflective of the message that they are putting into the world.

Emma had previously presented this session at a state conference and was selected to present at the larger regional conference.  Feedback from her colleagues in attendance was positive. Sandra Howard, PhD, Keene State College professor shared  “Her work is leading not only the state, but the region, on how to promote repertoire that positively supports  equity and inclusion. The repertoire we choose as ensemble directors supports the skills and curriculum standards in the arts. The social, historical and cultural context of our repertoire represents our values as educators. Moultonborough Academy’s students, staff, and families are fortunate to have you in their community promoting rights for all.”

We agree with Dr. Sandra Howard. We are fortunate to have Emma Forest as an educator in the district and are proud to have her represent Moultonborough School District at such a prestigious conference.
