Since March 2019, the Moultonborough School District as been using a verified school climate survey from the Alliance for the Study of School Climate (ASSC) based at California State University. This valid and reliable tool provides another data source to school leadership for decision-making. School climate measures are important as research shows a strong correlation between positive school climate and academic outcomes.
The most recent 2023 staff school climate survey results were shared with the MSD School Board on March 5, 2024. Results from the survey indicate overall culture across the 3 schools is positive and stable or positive and improving The district and schools scored better than over 50% of other schools on school climate; Moultonborough Central School scored higher than more than 75% of other schools. The district and schools receive and overall score and then a score in each of 8 dimensions of school climate. All scores were above the mean score. The dimension with the lowest score on all reports was “physical environment.”
Moultonborough Central School results earned the school a rating of a “high” performing school, and has shown strong growth across the years that the survey has been used. “The high ratings (even through the pandemic times) reflect both institutional capacity as well as high quality pedagogy” according to the ASSC report.
Moultonborough Academy and Moultonborough Middle Level results indicated “middle-high” performing schools. MA was reported with “high student ratings reflect a stable climate. There are few, if any, red flag items by the adults or students in the MA data.” (2023 ASSC MA School Climate Report) “Data from the Moultonborough Middle Level School 2023 and 2022 SCAI indicates that, in large part, the school’s practices and policies are solid and functional.”
In 2020 and 2022, the district administered the student version of the survey to students in grades 3 – 12. The next administration of the student survey is in March 2024.
